Treading Dangerously

I am happy that the outcome of Jill Carroll's kidnapping was a good one. I am not happy about those who are left behind.

It is so unnecessary for the press to "get to the bottom" of the video Ms Carroll made on her last night of being a hostage. What she said to get out of Iraq, out of the situation she was in was completely understandable. Anybody would have made a video that said they didn't agree with Bush's war to go home again. Whether they believed it or not.

To harp on the reasons in the press, is dangerous. Dangerous to the hostages still being held. Who is going to believe them if and when they get the chance to make a video? Are the pissed off kidnappers going to believe that their hostages feel what they say and then let them go? I don't think so.

I think Ms Carroll was extremely lucky to get out of Iraq alive. Now I think all should remain mute until a later and more appropriate time to discuss this whole ordeal in the press. This includes a full disclosure article written by Ms Carroll herself. Ratings and seizing the moment are not the most important things in life. I would think Ms Carroll for one, must certainly realize this after all she has been thru.

You are exactly right; there are so many being held for whatever reasons, be it ransom or bargaining power or just because they can. Giving their captors more power or creedance will only fuel more of the same. Yet the dollar rules the day in all things at this point, and I have no hope of seeing sense prevail!

I got a link a while back in an e-mail from some vets who are making POW bracelets. They are Vietnam era vets, making them for Scott Speicher missing since the first Gulf War (a hometown boy for us), and the only POW listed "missing" from the current action, a boy from Ohio, the only unaccounted for soldier at the time I visted their website.

Somehow the irony of 'Nam era vets doing this was really poignant for me...

SO many we don't know are languishing as well. Sometimes the media makes things better and sometimes makes thing worse. Just so glad that this woman is reunited with her loved ones.

Happy rest of the weekend to you,

Yes, true, but when she is being villified by many, especially on the F word network, it is no wonder that she felt compelled to state her case.

Also, remember that much of our media never makes it into Iraq. They don't have power and internet let alone water a good portion of the day.

It was heart warming to see Jill Carrol return from iraq. It just shoes how little sense these fanatical groups make. I don't have faith in the media to leave this story alone until a 'more appropriate time...the fact is a lot of americans were already bored of hearing of Jill missing by the time she was released. They need another piece or raw flesh to sink their teeth into....and i'm sure our media will give it to them.
